Do you have an awkward or empty corner in your house that you don’t know what to do with? I do. I couldn’t figure out what to put there but I knew leaving it empty wasn’t going to cut it. During the holidays, I don’t have that problem because it has been our Christmas tree spot since we moved in but keeping a Christmas tree up all year is not an option so…now what?
Since we only have a seating for four in our living room, I decided to make it a little seating area/reading nook. It took awhile to find just the right chair to fit in the small space. We needed one that wouldn’t stick out too far into the walkway space of our living room but that would fill the width perfectly. Finding a chair like that on a budget was not an easy task but I did it! I found the perfect chair!
The best way to figure out how to fill an awkward or empty space; is to first decide how you want to use it. Will it just be a corner for a decorative piece like a ladder bookshelf or a tall plant or do you want it to fill a need? For me, I needed more seating and more storage so obviously, I made it a seating area but as long as you know what you want or need out of the space, you can do just about anything within the confines of how much space you have available and where it is located.
Measure out the width and depth of your space and then start shopping for the items that will best suit your needs and the area you are working with.
I found this great slipper chair online at Target on clearance for 50% off! It was the perfect width and depth so I snatched it up! Then, I bought (again online at Target on clearance) a cute little tufted storage ottoman that was also the exact right size and completed the space. The ottoman can be used for additional seating as well…BONUS!!
Now, the awkward empty corner in my living room is a cozy little seating area that can also be used for storage.
And there you have it! I hope I’ve inspired you to fill your empty corners with something lovely!
Until next time…
