Okay, people…this is my very first DIY project I posted on my former blog that I thought I would share here. I really liked how it turned out and it was super easy to do. So, for those of you who have read my other blog, this is a repeat but for all the new readers, this is for you!
Okay, so we’ve been in this house for about 5 ½ years and while I really do love it, there are things I’ve been wanting to change since Day 1. Before we built this house, we were living way on the other side of town and Sam’s commute from work was becoming too much. We had a kindergartener and a newborn at the time and he wasn’t getting to spend much waking time with either of them. Our other house was pretty large. We had 4 bedrooms, 2 living rooms, and 2 eating areas. We even had a game room and pretty big backyard. In order to move closer to work though, we had to downsize. Houses on this side of town are considerably more expensive than those where we were. Considering we were a one income family, we had to decide what was more important…the big house or more time spent together. It wasn’t a difficult decision at all actually. We put our house up for sale and began building the one we’re in now.
We love the neighborhood, our neighbors are amazing and have become good friends, the kids love their schools, we’re super close to Sam’s work, and most importantly…we’re one exit away from my favorite mall! Bonus!! So, here we are in a smaller house with a smaller yard but way happier. However, like I mentioned earlier, there are some things I really want to change. The one that has driven me nuts since jump was the whole laundry room/pantry combo and the fact that we don’t have a coat closet. Guests come over and they have to drop their things on my dining room table because there’s nowhere else downstairs for them to go. All of our bedrooms are upstairs. How do we fix that? I racked my brain and then the husband and I came up with the idea to use extra space in our kitchen for a stand-alone pantry and turn our laundry room/pantry into a laundry room/mud room/ coat closet! Brilliant, I tell ya! [Read more…]
This is my little girl, Alexa Danielle. She likes to go by Lexi. I like to call her “the girl child”.
She is in a lot of ways, my “mini-me” in personality. I think that term can come across as though she’s just me in a smaller form and that she has no personality of her own. That couldn’t be further from the truth! Yes, she has a lot of personality traits like mine but she has a personality all her own, a style all her own, and a thought process all her own. With that being said, parenting a “mini-me” of any kind can be a challenge. It’s like having a conversation with yourself and not agreeing with yourself. Talk about awkward. I have come to the realization that unless you like yourself, it will be really hard to like the child that is so much like you; and liking your child is extremely important. The amazing thing is…I didn’t use to like myself. Growing up, I felt all kinds of flawed and at times, unworthy of love. As a child, I didn’t feel a great deal of love for myself let alone “like”. Thankfully, as an adult and before I had children, I started to believe what God said about me and allowed myself to be loved by Him and therefore began to love and like myself.
Whew! Not that I think I’m flawless or that I don’t have work to do on myself but, I do like who I am and I love the person I have become which has made it a whole lot easier to like my little girl…and enjoy the parts of her that are very much like me. It’s kind of funny sometimes and when she displays those “mini-me” moments, I like to tell the husband, “You know she gets that from you, right?” It’s always good for a laugh.
Hooray!! My first post on my brand new blog! My amazing brother, Herman O…umm…I mean, John designed this beautiful site for me and I am ever so grateful! I just gave him ideas and showed him blogs I like the look of and…voila! He made this for me. He’s awesome. It’s true. But, enough about him…this is my blog! Haha! Just for fun though, here’s a pic of my brothers and me…John is the one on the sofa on the left. The other two are Hector (the one standing next to me) and the youngest of us, Chris (sitting next to John).
There! I gave my brothers some love on my blog…that should appease them. Let’s see if they’ll read my blog and comment. Only time will tell. While I wait on that…I thought I’d share one of my little (and by little, I mean really easy) DIY projects with you. [Read more…]
